Continental Airlines was founded in 1934 and its first flight was between Pueblo, Colorado and El Paso, Texas. Today, with 286 destinations worldwide Continental Airlines serves more international destinations than any other US carrier.
The airline is among the largest US carriers operating to destinations throughout the USA, Canada, Latin America, Europe and the Asia pacific Region.
Continental Airlines, along with Continental Express, the regional jet service provider for Continental Airlines operate from its three hubs at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (in Cleveland, Ohio), George Bush Intercontinental Airport (in Houston, Texas), and Newark Liberty International Airport (in Newark, New Jersey) while also serving the most UK airports out of every US airline.
Continental Airlines won OAG Airline of the Year Award in 2001, 2004-2007 for Best Airline based in North America, while numerous other awards and accolades have been won by Continental Airlines reflecting the high standard the airline strives for safety and operations to customer and in-flight service.
Continental Micronesia, a wholly owned subsidiary, operates routes around Micronesia from its hub in Guam, and connects the Micronesia region with Australia with their twice weekly flights into Cairns, and other destinations in Asia.
Flying Continental, competitive fares are available from Cairns to Micronesia, Asia and the US. Fares are also available from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane with interline partner Qantas Airlines to meet the Continental flight from Cairns.
Since 2004, Continental Airlines has been a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, in which it participates with Air France-KLM, Alitalia, Korean Air, Czech Airlines, Northwest Airlines, AeroMexico and Aeroflot. In 2008 it was annouced Continental would be terminating its membership with Skyteam and joining Star Alliance to become a full member by the end of 2009.
